A successful run in the preliminaries of the schools edition of the Spar International Sevens tournament set up Mbare to continue on their legend-killing spree. The Mbare side dismantled the Churchill Bulldogs yesterday to make it to the Cup final where they faced the famous Prince Edward Tigers.
Though the final was tightly contested the young lads from Mbare held their defensive lines well against the physical “Tigers” and ran away with the game to win the Schools Cup with a 12-7 scoreline.
In other schools finals Vainona won the shield final against Mabvuku winning 24 – 0 while Hellenic ran rings around St John’s College to register a 34 – 7 win in the bowl final. After losing to Mbare in the cup semi-final Churchill dropped to the plate final, facing Eaglesvale. The Willowvale boys did not leave up-to expectations as they were the only side to register a win against Mbare Academy at the Spar sponsored tourney. Churchill held off the Eaglesvale attack to lift the plate with a score of 10 – 5.
