Age Group: 1st Team Teams: Hellenic vs Lomagundi Venue: Arundel School Date: Fri 10 May 2013
One of the opening matches of the boys hockey season turned out to be a thriller with Hellenic Academy playing against Lomagundi College.
The two teams played out to a two all draw going into the half-time break. Hellenic’s concentration lapsed soon after the break and that allowed Lomagundi to attack their goal more resulting in two quick goals that saw the Chinhoyi team take the lead for the first time in the game. Grinitam of Lomagundi threatened to put more points on the board for his side but Zu Wazir was excellent in goal for Hellenic. A late goal saw Hellenic come up 4-3 but it was a little too late and that stood as the final score.
Great camaraderie among the boys after the match was a reminder of what makes schools’ sport worthwhile.
In other fixtures Eaglesvale hosted Churchill and registered a convincing 3-0 win to kick start their season campaign. Peterhouse Boys won 2-1 against St George’s College. Another seven-goal thriller was on the cards as St John’s College thumped Gateway 6-1.
