The Zwart U19/U15A Waterpolo Tournament will be held this weekend at the St John’s College pool. The matches will be played on Saturday (February 15) and Sunday (February 16) and will start as early as 7am.
The Zwart Tournament was first held last year and Falcon College in Esigodini were the hosts. This year’s hosts, St John’s College, are the Zwart Trophy’s inaugural winners.
The tournament and trophy are so named after Yann Zwart. Zwart is a parent, who not only donated the trophy but helped greatly towards the development of the heating facility of the St John’s College pool. His son, Bart Zwart, an Old Johanian, played for the national U19 side at the South African IPT last December.
This year’s edition of the Zwart Tournament will be used as a selection tourney for the Zimbabwe team. This team will represent Zimbabwe in the Junior World Championship qualifiers to be played in South Africa at the end of next month, March.
