Chisipite Basketball Hold Their Own in Johannesburg Festival

Chisipite Senior School’s first team basketball squad made the most of their Half Term weekend by traveling to Johannesburg as the only Zimbabwean team participating in the U19 InterCatholic Basketball Festival and making it to the final of the tournament.

Chisipite started their long weekend in South Africa by beating St Dunstan’s 30-6 in a friendly match.  Starting with the festival on Saturday (18 February 2017), they won all three of their pool matches, shutting out Maryvale College 38-0, and beating Holy Family College 23-5 and McAuley House 26-5.

Chisipite then met Sacred Heart in the semi-final, no contest again as they won with a wide margin 32-2.  However, the girls in green finally met their match in the final which they lost in a hard fought 9-16 game which went to victors Dominican.

Yashimabeth Nhara was Captain for the Chisipite side for the tour.  Vice Captain Charmaine Samudzimu was the top scorer and top rebounder, with Thandeka Sibanda having the most assists.
