Dominican Convent dribbled past all of their opponents on Africa Day, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 to win the ATS CHISZ Harare District first term tournament, while selectors were watching for individual strengths to choose 38 girls for two teams representing Mashonaland in the upcoming Interprovincials.
Favorites Convent and Chisipite showed their strength during the morning games, with lopsided scores like Convent 27-5 Eaglesvale, Chisipite 25-9 Westridge, and Convent 22-10 Heritage. One of the best played games of the day was the match between hosts Arundel and Chisipite, which ended in Chisipite’s favor 22-18 in an intense overtime period.
Convent and Chisipite came top of their pools with Gateway and St John’s second. Chisipite shut out St John’s 18-0 in the semi final for Pool A with Convent pulling a convincing win over Gateway in the Pool B semi-final. Chisipite showed their exhaustion in the final against Convent, missing easy layovers. Playmaker and Captain Farai Kawonde led a solid Convent to win the final 16-8.
