De Chassart Qualifies for Triathlon World Champs

Hellenic Academy U6 student Gabrielle Dumont de Chassart has been confirmed as Zimbabwe’s representative at the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon Grand Finals.  Seventeen year old de Chassart will be competing in the U19 Junior Women’s Sprint Event at the championships which take place 10-18 September 2016 in Cozumel, Mexico.

The Zimbabwe Triathlon Union conferred National Junior Colours for Triathlon on de Chassart this past week at their Annual General Meeting, recognizing her commitment to and achievements in triathlon for the country. de Chassart, well known as the girl to beat during schools’ cross country season, is full out training to prepare for her race on Friday, 16 September.

de Chassart secured her place to represent Zimbabwe in the Worlds by finishing 4th in the recent African Triathlon Union Championships in Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa.  As part of preparations for the Mexico competition, she will also compete in the Mandela Day Triathlon at Midmar Dam in Kwa-Zulu Natal Province in South Africa in August.

Mexico last held the World Triathlon Grand Finals in 2005, and before that they hosted in 1995. The course at Cozumel includes a 750m open water swim, a 20 kilometer cycle ride and a 5 kilometer road run.
