Mixed Fortunes for Zimbabwean Junior Golfers at Curro Cup

Team Zimbabwe faced stiff competition at the Curro Cup South African Junior Golf Invitational in Cape Town last week.  The team of seven boys and three girls completed the course with mixed results.

Kieran Vincent of St John’s College and homeschooled David Amm were the top Zimbabwean golfers to participate in Curro, tying for twelfth place with 220 points a piece and a course handicap of +4, with scores of 74-73-73 and 71-76-73 respectively on the three days of the competition.

The third Zimbabwean team member to finish was Justin Kersten of Falcon College who came back from an average start with a 74 on Day 1 to achieve the top score of 68 on Day 2 which saw him in the top five.  Unfortunately, Kersten had an sluggish final day of the competition, scoring an 80 and finishing in 19th place with a total of 222 and +6 handicap.

Unfortunately, the other five members of the Zimbabwe boys team all finished between 75th and 95th place out of the field of 96 competitors.

The girls did not fare as well, with Danielle Bekker finishing first for Zimbabwe in 29th place with scores of 81-79-90 for a total of 250 and handicap of +34.  The other two female golfers from Zimbabwe finished 39th and 41st out of a field of 42 competitors.
