Nothing planned for the weekend? Need a stress reliever during this long wintry second term? Come stretch your legs, get some exercise and have a good time, all for a worthy cause. This Sunday (3 July 2016) is the annual SPAR Family Fun Run in aid of ChildLine Zimbabwe. The event starts at a fashionably late time compared to usual 6am and 7am runs, with a warm-up and registration at 9am and the walk and run starting at 10am.
The event starts and finishes at Hellenic Primary School in Alexandra Park, with a 5km walk and a 10km run on offer. Multiple sponsors, including main partner SPAR, will manage the event with lots of freebies and entertainment, in support of the important counseling, emergency and support services ChildLine Zimbabwe provides for Zimbabwe’s children and teenagers.
To increase the fun and the challenge, there will be a Schools Trophy for the school with the most participants and a Corporate Trophy for the company or organization who has the most members running and walking. There will also be prizes for winning runners of the 10km race. Entry is $5 which includes a t shirt for every participant. Runners and walkers are also encouraged to wear funny head gear, for which there will be prizes as well.
